Review #49: Chasing Tomorrow by Tilly Baghshawe

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Usually, when people get to the end of a chapter, they close the book and go to sleep. I deliberately write a book so when the reader gets to the end of the chapter, he or she must turn one more page."
------ Sidney Sheldon, the late American author who has over 300 million books in print.

The world's most notable crime author, Sheldon's legacy is now taken up another best-selling author, Tilly Bagshawe, who has held the position quite remarkably. This time, she writes another sequel to another greatest creation of Sheldon, If Tomorrow Comes, named, Chasing Tomorrow. Well, in one word- the book is thrilling and intriguing but if you are a die-hard fan of Sheldon, then Bagshawe's novel will not intrigue you that much, it might leave you with a frown on your fact at the end of the book!

Synopsis:
Chasing Tomorrow begins right where If Tomorrow Comes ended- right in the middle of a plane journey, but in a different era. Tracy is going to rob the worlds most notorious and one of the richest man Pier. But wait! That's not the real story, for so many years, Tracy and her partner-n-crime, Jeff had been a con-artist. And now they are all set to get married. Finally they both found their one true love. But it seems Tracy's fantasy of a being a married woman is not turning out to be that well mostly because when a twenty-something girl is crushing on Tracy's most handsome husband, Jeff. That sounds like a regular marriage drama!
Where's the 'THRILL/MURDER/RAWNESS'? The story's just getting started. Eventually, Tracy left Jeff, after Jeff's slip-up with that twenty-something girl and Tracy get vanished into thin year. Turn the page and you find Tracy eight years later in her home-country-America! But when a ghost from Tracy's past surfaces up and challenges her, it seems to Tracy that she indeed has so many unfinished business to put dirt on her burned past's ashes, since this was the tomorrow she was expecting for herself and she needs it to be perfect without any rivals on her way!

Well, this book didn't turn out to be that exciting like Bagshawe's previous novel, Angel of the Dark, which was in one word- brilliant! Tracy Whitney, Sheldon's protagonist seems to have withered away with time. She didn't have that passion to kill or to take revenge; instead she's more homely who loved fantasizing about her future. A girl with a broken past is now relenting upon her life. Her anger has died away. Moreover, like everyone says that it's predictable, I too will agree with that. Since a Sidney Sheldon fan will always be a Sidney Sheldon fan, no matter whoever comes and mimics his writing style. Well Bagshawe has tried and also tried to write those Sheldon sequels in Sheldon's flawless style, and for that I'd like to hats off to the author, since she almost sounds like him every time. The characters are one a kind, like reading about them will make you feel hell yeah! I know this chick so well. Raw and passion was present in Bagshawe's writing style and I loved that.

The only con would be the plot- it was obviously predictable, unlike Sheldon's riveting and will-keep-you-guessing plots. No, I'm not saying that it didn't had any twists to make Chasing Tomorrow riveting, yes there were lots of unexpected twists and turns, which will ultimately leave you with more knots in your brain, but being a die-hard fan of Sheldon, for me those knots were not that complex to open them up.

While reading Sheldon's books, you are bound to get the chills down your spine, since there is too much blood and sex, which will make your skin burn with passion, and this, is what lacks from Bagshawe's books!

Verdict: Read this book to unwind yourself on a boring weekend!
